Leaving the island is Martin Sharry’s first collection of poems. He has worked as a playwright and a performer of his own work.  His work has been produced in Dublin Fringe, Cork Solstice, Galway Theatre Festival and the Dublin Theatre Festival. See Images and Words for more details.
These poems share some of the playful spirit of his play making. They are preoccupied by an absence and find relief in a delight in language. The setting of Inishere,  two square miles of limestone provides a unique setting for the mundane drama. The poems move from the shore and seaweed towards  a more integrated universal outlook.
